(from back cover): Tom McEwen, A Tampa native, was raised in Wauchula, Fl., educated in Hardee County schools, and an honors graduate and distinguished alumni of the Unversity of Florida. Tom, a retired Lt. Colonel, served in the U.S. Army during and just after World Warr II. After stints in the sports departments of The Fort Meyers News-Press and the St. Petersburg Times, he became sports editor of The Tampa Times in June 1958. In April 1962, he was named sports editor of The Tampa Tribune and keeper of the long-running sports column, “The Morning After.” During his 25 years at The Trib, he was elected 19 times by his peers as Sports Writer of the year in Florida. He served as president of the National Football WRiters Association, and has been awarded many other honors, including the Red Smith Award and an induction into the NFL Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. This book is a collection of Tom McEwen’s past works from the Tampa Tribune sports pages.
